GOVERNOR MUTFWANG COMMITS OVER ₦1 BILLION TO QUALITY HEALTHCARE TRANSFORMATION IN PLATEAU

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the healthcare system in the state, emphasizing that access to quality healthcare remains a top priority. Towards this end, the Governor has disclosed that his administration has approved over ₦1 billion in medical assistance to support citizens with critical health needs. Governor Mutfwang made this known while receiving a delegation from the Sharing Hope Medical Mission USA, led by Dr. Emeka Anyanwu of Charitable Mission International USA, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Jos. The Governor commended the medical team for its humanitarian outreach, describing their visit as a valuable partnership that aligns perfectly with his administration’s vision of rebuilding critical social infrastructure, particularly in the health and human services sectors. “Since I assumed office as Governor, my administration has approved over ₦1 billion in medical assistance, some for treatment abroad and others locally, covering cases ranging from kidney dialysis to other critical health challenges,” he revealed. Governor Mutfwang further emphasized his administration’s determination to sustain the ongoing momentum of healthcare development across the state. “We are determined to sustain this momentum, and that is why you will continue to witness more growth and transformation across Plateau State. Our shared commitment to leadership and service will continue to drive progress,” he said. He lauded the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the state for its noble contributions and called for deeper collaboration and investment in the healthcare system, noting that the government is committed to improving both medical training and infrastructure. "For us, it is never about who takes the credit, but about who receives the benefit. That is what truly matters,” the Governor added. While expressing concern over the shortfall of medical personnel in the country, Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s commitment to the well-being of citizens. “We are on the verge of launching a new School of Medical Pathology, and we are recruiting more doctors and nurses into the system. Our doctor-to-patient ratio remains high, nearly one doctor to 4,000 patients, which shows that there is still a long journey ahead,” he stated. The Governor also disclosed that the state government is already in talks with a team of doctors from Germany, who are expected to visit in 2026 to offer similar medical support. He affirmed that his administration welcomes all genuine partnerships aimed at improving the lives and health of Plateau citizens. In his remarks, Dr. Emeka Anyanwu, representing Charitable Mission International USA, expressed profound appreciation to the Plateau State Government for the warm reception and partnership, commending Governor Mutfwang’s leadership for prioritizing healthcare development. “When we were invited to Plateau State, we knew it was an opportunity to build something meaningful. The warm reception we received gave us confidence that we are in the right place,” Dr. Anyanwu said. He noted that the group’s visit to Plateau marks its sixth medical mission in Nigeria. “Since our arrival on Monday, we have been working at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and supporting the Mission Hospital in Vom. Our activities include free surgeries, general consultations, and medical training sessions. "At JUTH, we are currently conducting Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training, including CPR and Stop the Bleed courses for resident doctors and nurses. So far, we have successfully completed over 360 surgical procedures covering general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and minor reconstructive (plastic) operations,” he stated. Dr. Anyanwu also applauded the developmental strides of the Mutfwang-led administration, adding: “We are deeply impressed by the peace, hospitality, and warmth of the people, and by the visible transformation taking place under your administration. Driving through the city of Jos, the bright streetlights and the general orderliness convinced us that Plateau is indeed on the rise again.” Governor Mutfwang was joined by senior government officials during the visit, which featured an exchange of goodwill messages and discussions on expanding medical missions across Plateau State.
